Day of the event
Alaska Airlines Aviation Day is what you make of it. We have created a place where you can experience and learn about different careers in aviation and aerospace. This day is designed to be fun and interactive, so be curious and courteous. It takes many Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air employee volunteers along with outside exhibitors to put this day together so learn all you can from them.
Before you arrive
Print a copy of the classes you're signed up for so you can be on-time, see example below. Additional information is in the FAQ. Be at the location and in line for your class at least 5 minutes before the class starts. There will be a stand-by lane for several of the most popular classes and any open spots will be filled with people from the stand-by lane. We will begin moving people from the stand-by lane to the class at the start time for the class. We will not have copies of each person's classes. We ask everyone to know their schedule and be in the right place at the right time.
Leaders can access class schedules for their group by following these steps:
- Return to your registration confirmation page by using the "View Registration" link in your confirmation email
- You will see a list of everyone who is in your group. If you click the magnifying glass next to any group member, a pop-up will show everything you selected for that person.
- Additionally, if you scroll down on the confirmation page, your full group's agenda selections will be listed out all at once.
Parking
While parking is available, it will be limited. We encourage carpooling whenever possible. The Global Training Center (GTC) is located at 1301 SW 16th Street, Renton, WA 98057. Enter through the West Parking Lot. Participants will enter through the main entrance. Pick up and drop off should also be at the main entrance.
Checking in on the day of the event
Check-in will be at the Global Training Center only.
During check-in you will receive an Aviation Day backpack, Activities Passport and wristband. The wristband is your admission into the event. Wristbands are to be worn by adults as well. In your backpack, you will find a few fun gifts including a lanyard which you can use to wear your Activities Passport. During your visit, look for the various passport stops at both the GTC and Hangar. The letters on the passport correspond with the activities. Just look for a sign with the letter you are looking for. Note, not all activities have letters. Remember to get your passport stamped at each stop. If you complete the passport, you will receive a unique Aviation Day Challenge Coin, at the end of the day. Volunteers at each booth will check off completed activities. Your coin can be picked up at the GTC check-out area by the main entrance.
General Admission
The event starts at 9:00 am. We will allow people to begin queuing up for classes and the hangar bus at 8:30 am, but you cannot enter any of the facilities until a volunteer opens the doors and allows you inside. There is limited cover from inclement weather, so please dress accordingly.
Girl Scouts and Museum of Flight groups
To help alleviate the pressure on the event, Girl Scouts and Museum of Flight groups will check-in between 7:00 am and 7:45 am at the GTC. These 2 groups will have access to the flight simulator beginning at 8:00 am. If you previously signed up for a flight simulator session and are in one of these groups, please cancel the sessions that you booked.
Activities at the Hangar
A bus will be available to take you between the GTC and Hangar. Please allow 30-minutes travel time between buildings. The bus will depart from the main entrance area of the GTC. The line will be just north of the entrance door. Activities at both locations will conclude at 4:00pm.
Lunch and beverages
We will be providing lunch and beverages to all participants, at the GTC between 11:00am – 2:00pm. Bottled Water and a snack will also be available at the Hangar. If you have special dietary needs, please bring your own lunch.
